The Cincinnati Academy of Performing Arts Announces Annual Vocal Scholarship Competition
The Cincinnati Academy of Performing Arts (CAPA) is partnering with Xavier University Music Department to host its second Annual Vocal Competition for high school students in the greater Cincinnati area. More than $2,000 in scholarship money and vocal lessons will be awarded at the competition on Saturday, May 4 at Xavier University’s Bellarmine Chapel. Vocal competitors are asked to prepare and perform two memorized selections within a seven-minute timeframe: one musical theatre selection, and another of contrasting style, such as classical, pop, gospel, jazz, or an original composition. An accompanist is provided at no additional cost, and applicants are responsible for bringing readable, clearly marked music for the accompanist to use. Participants can also bring their own accompanist if preferred.
The competition will be held May 4, 2019 from 12:30 p.m. – 5 p.m. at the Bellarmine Chapel at Xavier University, 3801 Ledgewood Drive, 45207. Applicants will be notified by email of their audition times no later than April 26. Prizes awarded are: First place, $500; Second place $250; Third place, $100; Rising Star Awards, $50; and a CAPA Vocal Scholarship award to one student who will receive more than $800 in private vocal lessons with a CAPA instructor.
